Types of Computers

The computers come in different sizes. A computer is big enough to occupy a hall or so small that can fit in a pocket.
1. Mainframe Computers
As is evident from the name, mainframe computers are the largest computers in the world, first developed in 1954. They are usually installed in rooms with a controlled environment which should be dust free and air-conditioned. Their processing power is very high up to Teraflops per second.
2. Mini Computers
Mini Computers were introduced in 1961; They are smaller than mainframe computers and have a size of a standard cupboard. Unlike mainframe, they do not require special care; they are usually used to research organization and in factories to monitor the manufacturing process.
3. Micro Computers
Three types of microcomputers have been introduced; These are desktop, laptop and palmtop. It is the most common computers and also called  P.C means personal computer. It is so small that can be carried n briefcase.
4. Super Computer
Supercomputer came into the market in mid-1970,s. They are very expensive. Their processing speed is the fastest among all computers. They are used for military purpose and also research work. National Space Agency of America use these types of computers for research purpose
