Carbohydrates
The word carbohydrates literally mean hydrated carbon. They are composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and the ratio of hydrogen and oxygen is the same as in water i.e 2:1 There general formula is C^n (H^2O)^n where 'n' is that the number from 3 to several thousand.
Chemically, carbohydrates are defined (definition) as polyhydroxy aldehydes or ketones, or complex substance, which on the hydrolysis yield polyhydroxy aldehyde or ketone subunits.
